Title A name given to the resource Robert Kerwin Accident, 1975, Rossville, Kansas Subject The topic of the resource Transportation accidents Description An account of the resource Early Morning Accident Near Rossville Results in Injuries Robert Kerwin, 18, St. Marys, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Kerwin, was admitted to St. Francis Hospital early Wednesday morning following a three-vehicle smashup near Rossville. His left arm had to be amputated shortly after he was admitted. Kerwin was also treated for lacerations to his right arm and forearm. Lynn Weill, 31, Edna, was also admitted. He received treatment for contusions to his scalp, chest and shoulder. The accident occurred about 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, August 20, 1975, just east of Rossville on U.S.-24 Highway. A number of hogs being trucked to market were also killed. The highway patrol said a Jeep-like vehicle driven by Kerwin and headed west veered left of the center line of the highway and sideswiped a truck loaded with hogs headed east and on the highway. The patron said Weill apparently lost control of the truck, crossed over the center line and sideswiped a westbound pickup driven by Gerry Dolezilek, 17, Rossville. Dolezilek was not injured. Authorities said most of the hogs in the truck were killed in the accident. Those that survived were rounded up later in the morning.
